Slings The baby sling is popular again with hip and trendy mums who find it handy and more convenient to carry baby in a sling that they can then fold up and tuck into the diaper bag. Many of today's modern versions come with a zip compartment to fit a diaper and some wet wipes. The latest to hit the market is the Littlepods sling, developed by a real-life mum whose baby could not sleep unless he was carried. The sling is designed to spread the weight of the baby evenly between the shoulder and hip to minimise back and shoulder strain. For more information, call Joanne Ho at 012-4886644 or visit www.littlepods.com. Online mum and babystore thebabyloft.com also carries a wide range of slings and hip hammocks that come in the most gorgeous colours and comfortable material. Lilac, gold, yellow-green and blue slings in washable cotton sateen are the latest rage, with prices ranging from RM89 yo RM108.90. Before you buy, do consider how long you will be using the sling - there are those suitable only for infants under a certain weight, but some can be adapted for toddler use too (depending on you tie and strap it on). Carriers and Baskets Some mothers like having a Moses basket around the house as baby can be kept in it (preferably asleep!) while being carried around the house without having to be disturbed. For this reason, some parents also like using it when out and about. Most major baby shops such as Mothercare carry a selection of Moses baskets, buyt again, it will pay to look around as prices vary greatly. Also, you are not likely to get more than three to four month's use out of it. In comparison, baby carriers will take you much further as most can be adapted for use as baby grows into a toddler, and allows you to carry the baby in various positions (facing front or back, upright or prone). The plus side here is that many fathers feel more comfortable using a hi-tech carrier than pastel-coloured sling! Again, you will find a wide selection at major baby stores like Mothercare.
